Hello Mr. and Mrs. Century Village and all our residents around the globe.

Here lies the First Amendment, thanks to UCO and WPRF!

Columnist George Will wrote in an article,  “Assault  on the First Amendment”
When government is empowered to regulate advocacy, it will be tempted to suppress some of it.”  That is what is happening here in Century Village.  Today I attended the nominations committee meeting.  The agenda was dedicated to formulating a framework for holding the March 2016 election.  For many years the process of holding a UCO election was predicated on fairness, openness, and allowing all candidates to use the pool areas and club house to hold rallies’ to meet and greet and provide an ongoing forum for the candidates to define their vision for Century Village.
UCO and WPRF capriciously and  arbitrarily broke the time honored tradition of open campaigning in Century Village.
Part of the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution deals with the “Due Process Clause.”   The due process clause, properly construed, prohibits arbitrary government action, particularly that which unjustifiably restricts individuals' liberties such as free speech and free assembly.  The action take by UCO and WPRF is unjustifiable when it restricts the individual’s right to “due process” and denies them access to assemble and communicate to their fellow residents.
UCO and WPRF can not offer any rational reason for implementing this rule.  None of what they have done passes the smell test.
At a time in our nation’s history when there is such an assault on our freedoms by the political correctness crowd,  and when major universities challenge free expression of ideas because it makes some people uncomfortable,  we residents of Century Village (especially our veterans)  should  stand up and challenge this evil trend and show the world that the residents of our community believe in openness, fair play, and the democratic way!
